As at early July the building situation has begun to resolve itself. There are still some outstanding issues, so this long story may not be over yet. The position outlined below is not what anyone would probably come to if they could wave a magic-wand and sensibly plan for building works. It is, however, a good result after many months of work and negotiation with the multiple parties involved. It is also an outcome that would not have been achieved without the support of the Cammeray Public School community. (Note that this is all subject to further change, approvals process, detailed drawings, quotations, etc, etc)
New classrooms Six new classrooms will be built on Zone 3 during 2010. These classrooms are being built with $3M from the Federal Government. Zone 4 It now appears we've worked our way back to basically our original plan. Zone 4 will be artificially turfed. This will included a marked basketball/netball court and provision for cricket nets. A new entrance will be put into Zone 3 and the existing gate on Zone 4 will be closed. The current thinking does not extend to surrounding seating as hoped - largely because there is a significant drainage problem to be fixed which will use up the funds. The Zone 4 works are being paid for with $200,000 from the Federal Government. New toilets The plan to put new toilets in under the classrooms on the Quiet Zone is still in play. The School has been informed those works should happen next year. These toilets will see the demountable toilet blocks being removed and will entail building works on Zone 3. The new toilets are being paid for out of the State Government capital works program. More new classrooms Cammeray is on the State Government's Major Capital Works list to get further 6 classrooms in 2011. This is entirely subject to budget approval in the next budget cycle and no other project getting ahead of us in the list. If this does happen, the new buildings will be on Zone 3. |
